Qom in pure silk
This one-of-a-kind piece in beige brings together traditional craftsmanship and timeless elegance. With a knot density of approx. 900,000 knots per m², the elaborate workmanship shows above all in the precise drawing of the design and the fine execution of the details. At 155 × 102 cm it suits a small living-room rug. The harmonious colouring and the characteristic texture lend any room an exclusive, homely atmosphere. A rug of this quality is far more than a piece of furnishing – it is a piece of traditional textile art with individual character and lasting value.

Origin
Qom is a relatively young provenance for Persian rugs. The city of Qom (also Ghom, Gom, Ghoum, Goum) lies in central Iran, about 100 km south of the capital Tehran. As there was no old knotting tradition in Qom to build on, patterns were and still are adopted from other weaving regions. Over time, however, a style of its own has grown out of this. The silk rugs from Qom are today among the most famous and finest rugs in the world. The field of rugs from Qom often has a light ground decorated with finely drawn medallion patterns or all-over boteh or vase designs.
Material
The silk pile of this Qom in pure silk makes the colours of the pattern glow in different shades, depending on how the light falls. It makes this Qom in pure silk a real highlight and creates an atmosphere in the room that is cosy and at the same time very elegant and refined. Silk is obtained by hand from the cocoons of the silkworm. Because the individual silk filaments are extremely long, very fine yarns can be spun that are light in weight yet still tear-resistant. Fine yarn allows smaller rug knots to be tied, and with them finer patterns. This is why the world's finest rugs are hand-knotted from pure silk.In this pure silk Qom, even the foundation has been made from pure silk. Because the material of the weft and warp threads is so thin yet hard-wearing, a particularly fine knotting – and therefore a particularly fine pattern – is possible.
Condition
You are not the first to take a liking to this Qom in pure silk. It had owners before you who valued and used it. It was knotted around 21. It has been thoroughly cleaned and is in good but only partially restored condition. This fine Qom carries a few scars of time. Overall, it has sadly faded a little. There are also a few smaller tears. The edges and fringes could do with a repair as well. We have not fully restored this Qom in pure silk because we feel it has a special presence just as it is. If you would like us to, we are of course happy to carry on restoring the rug for you. We can bring almost any rug back to near-perfect condition.
A note on the photos
Child labour? No thanks.
Child labour? No thanks. Children belong in school, not at a knotting frame or a loom. For us it therefore goes without saying that we only offer rugs made under fair conditions and without child labour.
We attach particular importance to humane working conditions and tolerate no child labour at any of our producers. Thank you for helping us to ensure fair conditions.
That is why we support the initiative Care & Fair against child labour in the rug trade.
