Qom in pure silk
This rug in beige and dark red exists in this form only once: it combines traditional craftsmanship with timeless elegance. At approx. 810,000 knots per m² the workmanship is correspondingly elaborate, as you can see in the precise drawing and the finely worked details. Its 301 × 199 cm make it a living room rug. It also cuts a fine figure in the bedroom beneath the bed. Colouring and structure give the room a homely atmosphere – with a character no other rug shares.

Origin
Qom is a relatively young provenance for Persian rugs. The city of Qom (also Ghom, Gom, Ghoum, Goum) lies in central Iran, about 100 km south of the capital Tehran. As there was no old knotting tradition in Qom to build on, patterns were and still are adopted from other weaving regions. Over time, however, a style of its own has grown out of this. The silk rugs from Qom are today among the most famous and finest rugs in the world. The field of rugs from Qom often has a light ground decorated with finely drawn medallion patterns or all-over boteh or vase designs.
Material
The silk of the pile of this Qom in pure silk makes the colours of the pattern glow in different facets, depending on how the light falls. It turns this Qom in pure silk into a real jewel and creates an atmosphere in the room that is cosy and at the same time very elegant and refined. Silk is obtained by hand from the cocoons of the silkworm. Because the individual silk filaments are extremely long, very fine yarns can be spun that are still tear-resistant despite their low weight. This fine yarn allows smaller knots to be tied and therefore more delicate patterns to be created. That is why the finest rugs in the world are hand-knotted from pure silk.The weft threads of this Qom in pure silk are made of cotton. Pure silk was used for the warp threads.
