Qom in pure silk
This one-of-a-kind piece in golden beige and pink combines traditional craftsmanship with timeless elegance. A knot density of around 1,000.000 knots per m² makes the painstaking work visible – right down to the finely drawn details. At 302 × 203 cm it is well placed as a large living room rug. It comes into its own just as well in the dining room under a table for six to eight people. The harmonious colouring and the distinctive texture give any room an exclusive, homely atmosphere. A rug of this quality is far more than a piece of furnishing – it is a piece of traditional textile art with individual character and lasting value.

Origin
Qom is a relatively young provenance for Persian rugs. The city of Qom (also Ghom, Gom, Ghoum, Goum) lies in central Iran, about 100 km south of the capital Tehran. As there was no old knotting tradition in Qom to build on, patterns were and still are adopted from other weaving regions. Over time, however, a style of its own has grown out of this. The silk rugs from Qom are today among the most famous and finest rugs in the world. The field of rugs from Qom often has a light ground decorated with finely drawn medallion patterns or all-over boteh or vase designs.
Material
The silk in the pile of this pure silk Qom lets the colours of the pattern shine in many different facets, depending on how the light falls. It makes this pure silk Qom a real highlight and creates an atmosphere in the room that is cosy and at the same time very elegant and refined. Silk is obtained by hand from the cocoons of the silk moth. Because the individual silk filaments are extremely long, very fine yarns can be made that are light in weight and yet tear-resistant. This fine yarn allows smaller rug knots to be tied, and with them more intricate patterns. That is why the finest rugs in the world are hand-knotted from pure silk.In this pure silk Qom, even the foundation has been made from pure silk. Because the material of the weft and warp threads is so thin yet hard-wearing, a particularly fine knotting – and therefore a particularly fine pattern – is possible.
Condition
This Qom in pure silk has a history. This wonderful piece had a few damaged areas, which we restored with great care and considerable effort. In the overall picture these areas do not stand out; on closer inspection they are faintly visible. Otherwise, and substantially, this enchanting rug is in flawless condition. It was knotted around 2010. We have cleaned it thoroughly and restored it with care. It is therefore – despite its age – in very good condition.
A note on the photos
Child labour? No thanks.
Child labour? No thanks. Children belong in school, not at a knotting frame or a loom. For us it therefore goes without saying that we only offer rugs made under fair conditions and without child labour.
We attach particular importance to humane working conditions and tolerate no child labour at any of our producers. Thank you for helping us to ensure fair conditions.
That is why we support the initiative Care & Fair against child labour in the rug trade.
