Place of origin
Goltogh (also Gholtogh, Goltog, Gholtog, Gholtug) rugs are knotted by settled Kurds. They resemble the Bijar in quality and texture. The solid, hard feel is created through a special basic weave, just like the Bijar. The cotton warp is very strongly stretched. The weft is beaten extremely hard. It is made using the Turkish knot.
Goltogh rugs are mostly dark in color. A slender hexagon almost always dominates the inner panel, although sometimes the tips at the top and bottom are interrupted by floral decoration. The filler motifs of flowers, leaves and occasionally animals are highly stylized.
The abstract, geometric composition creates the simple elegance of this Gholtogh. The pattern flatters the design of the room and does not take the attention away from its furniture, decoration and architectural elements. It creates a pleasant atmosphere without dominating the style of the room.
The edge of the rug is decorated with an edging (border). The border forms a beautiful contrast to the center.
The repeating elements in the center field of this Gholtogh rug have no specific center (so-called repeating pattern). The repeating pattern has a calming but not boring effect. Rugs with repeating patterns are also called patterned.
The background of this Gholtogh is beige. Furthermore, the color rusty red dominates the overall impression. The border features black and rusty red.
The pile of this Gholtogh has been hand-knotted from high-quality virgin wool. Virgin wool is obtained through the gentle shearing of sheep. Virgin wool is a sustainable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties; due to the wool's natural fat content, the surface repels water droplets and is thus naturally impervious to dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, has a regulating effect on living climate and muffles sound. The weft and warp threads of this Gholtogh are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and stretchable and, therefore, ideal for a durable backing fabric.
