Origin
Our hemp rugs really do suit every home and interior style. The understated pattern and the natural shifts in colour create a calming atmosphere and give any room a warmth and elegance all of its own. Whether in the living room, bedroom or office, a hand-knotted hemp rug becomes an eye-catcher and makes a space feel homely. Alongside their visual appeal, our hemp rugs are also known for their sustainability. Hemp is an environmentally friendly plant that needs little water and no pesticides to thrive. Hemp rugs are especially hard-wearing and forgiving of dirt. A special natural wash gives the rug a silky sheen. Hemp rugs hold back elegantly, enriching any room and creating a natural atmosphere all of their own while still leaving other furnishings room to shine. The surface of this hemp rug has a mottled look. The changes in tone and the light-and-dark shading of the pile yarn make the colours shimmer and keep the rug insensitive to soiling. These so-called colour shifts (abrash) give the rug a livelier character.
Pattern
The surface of this hemp rug has a mottled look. The changes in tone and the light-and-dark shading of the pile yarn make the colours shimmer and keep the rug insensitive to soiling. These so-called colour shifts, abrash, give the rug a livelier character. The mottling comes about because the wool for this hemp rug was hand-spun. During dyeing, the natural dyes are absorbed to differing degrees.
The pile is kept in a single shade of gold beige. The plain design is understated, yet it can also set a wonderful decorative accent. The monochrome look of this rug settles superbly into any setting.
Material
The material for the pile of this hemp rug is won from the bast of the hemp plant, the tissue just beneath the bark. The hemp makes this rug particularly robust and resilient. Hemp fibres feel coarse to the touch and are up to three times more hard-wearing than cotton. Compared with cotton, though, the hemp plant is gentler on the environment to grow and is becoming ever more popular. The plant needs no pesticides and is considered very durable and environmentally sound. Thanks to this environmental friendliness and their robust character, hemp rugs are also increasingly popular for heavily used living areas. The weft and warp threads of this hemp rug are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and elastic, which makes it particularly well suited to a hard-wearing foundation weave.
A note on the photos
Child labour? No thanks.
Child labour? No thanks. Children belong in school, not at a knotting frame or a loom. For us it therefore goes without saying that we only offer rugs made under fair conditions and without child labour.
We attach particular importance to humane working conditions and tolerate no child labour at any of our producers. Thank you for helping us to ensure fair conditions.
That is why we support the initiative Care & Fair against child labour in the rug trade.
