Origin

Heriz (also spelled Heris) is an important place of origin for hand-knotted rugs. Heriz lies in the far west of Iran, on the border with Azerbaijan. Rugs from Heriz are famous for their beautiful geometric designs. Characteristic of Heriz rugs is the lustrous wool with its wonderful colouring.

Material

The pile of this Heriz was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. It is a renewable, natural raw material with a whole range of impressive properties: thanks to the wool's natural lanolin content, the surface repels droplets of water and is naturally protected against dirt. Wool also provides excellent thermal insulation, has a balancing effect on the indoor climate and absorbs sound.

The weft and warp threads of this Heriz are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and flexible, which makes it especially suitable for a hard-wearing foundation.

Condition

This Heriz has had admirers before you. It was knotted around 66. It has been thoroughly cleaned and is in good but only partly restored condition. The pile is worn in places and the fringes are in need of some repair. We have not fully restored this Heriz because we feel it has a special presence just as it is. If that is what you would like, we are of course happy to carry on restoring the rug for you. We can bring almost any rug back to near-perfect condition.
