Origin

Our jute rugs are made in India. The relatively coarse jute yarns, dyed with natural colours, are woven together by hand. The natural, understated look of this jute rug sits just as beautifully in modern rooms as in classically furnished ones. The differently coloured yarns lend this jute rug a subtle liveliness. The fringes are formed by the warp threads and charmingly reveal the handwork behind the piece.

Pattern

The pile is kept in a single shade of light brown. The plain design is understated, yet it can also set a wonderful accent in a room. The monochrome look of this rug sits beautifully in any setting.

Material

Jute is a natural fibre obtained from Corchorus plants – shrubs belonging to the mallow family. The long, soft, shimmering fibres are spun into coarse, robust yarns. Because of its colour and gentle sheen, jute is also known as the “golden fibre”. Jute is a robust, long-lasting and environmentally friendly material. Jute fibres are fully biodegradable.

Jute originally comes from the countries around the Mediterranean, travelled from there to Asia and is today grown above all in India and Bangladesh. After harvesting, the plant stems, which grow up to three metres tall, are retted. The fibres can then be separated from the retted stems by hand. The jute fibres are washed in running water and afterwards dried. Finally, the raw jute fibre is spun into yarn in jute mills.
