Kayseri in pure silk with gold threads

This rug in beige brings together traditional craftsmanship and timeless elegance. At around 490,000 knots per m², the workmanship is correspondingly painstaking, as you can see in the precise drawing of the design and the finely worked details. Its 153 × 100 cm make it a small living room rug. As a one-of-a-kind piece it brings individual character into the room and keeps its value far beyond short-lived trends.

Origin

Kayseri (Latin Caesarea, named in honour of the Roman emperor Tiberius) is the capital of the province of the same name, Kayseri, in Cappadocia in Turkey. Kayseri rugs (also Kaiseri rugs) are usually made of pure silk. They are highly valuable and decorative. Kayseri rugs are typically knotted in smaller sizes and used as wall hangings or prayer rugs.

The pattern of this fine Kayseri in pure silk with gold threads is accentuated by the use of gold threads. The gold threads create a shimmering, lustrous contrast and make the colours glow in warm nuances, depending on how the light falls. The fine gold threads are not only precious but also extremely difficult to work with, and they underline the craftsmanship of the weavers.

Material

The silk of the pile of this Kayseri in pure silk with gold threads makes the colours of the pattern glow in different nuances, depending on how the light falls. It turns this Kayseri in pure silk with gold threads into a real highlight and creates an atmosphere in the room that is cosy and at the same time deeply elegant and refined. Silk is obtained by hand from the cocoons of the silkworm. Because the individual silk filaments are extremely long, very fine yarns can be made that are still tear-resistant despite their light weight. This fine yarn allows smaller rug knots to be tied and therefore finer patterns to be created. That is why the finest rugs in the world are hand-knotted from pure silk.

On this Kayseri in pure silk with gold threads, even the foundation is made of pure silk. The thin yet hard-wearing material of the weft and warp threads allows a particularly fine knotting and therefore a particularly fine pattern.
