Kayseri in pure silk
This one-of-a-kind piece in beige/gold brings together traditional craftsmanship and timeless elegance. With a knot density of around 560,000 knots per m², the elaborate workmanship shows above all in the precise drawing of the design and the fine execution of the details. At 167 × 98 cm it works beautifully as a small living-room rug. The harmonious colouring and the characteristic texture give any room an exclusive, homely atmosphere. A rug of this quality is far more than a furnishing item – it is a piece of traditional textile art with individual character and lasting value.

Origin
Kayseri (Latin Caesarea, named in honour of the Roman emperor Tiberius) is the capital of the province of the same name, Kayseri, in Cappadocia in Turkey. Kayseri rugs (also Kaiseri rugs) are usually made of pure silk. They are highly valuable and decorative. Kayseri rugs are typically knotted in smaller sizes and used as wall hangings or prayer rugs.
Material
The silk in the pile of this Kayseri in pure silk makes the colours of the pattern shine in ever-changing facets, depending on how the light falls. It turns this Kayseri in pure silk into a real highlight and creates an atmosphere in the room that is cosy and at the same time thoroughly elegant and refined. Silk is obtained by hand from the cocoons of the silkworm. Because the individual silk filaments are extremely long, very fine yarns can be produced that are light yet still strong. Fine yarn allows smaller rug knots to be tied and so finer patterns to be created. That is why the finest rugs in the world are hand-knotted from pure silk. With this Kayseri in pure silk, even the foundation is made of pure silk. Thanks to the thin yet hard-wearing material of the weft and warp threads, a particularly fine knotting and therefore a particularly fine pattern is possible.
Condition
You are not the first to take a liking to this Kayseri in pure silk. It has had owners before you who valued and used it. It was knotted around 31. We have cleaned it thoroughly and restored it with care. As a result it is – despite its age – in very good condition.
A note on the photos
Child labour? No thanks.
Child labour? No thanks. Children belong in school, not at a knotting frame or a loom. For us it therefore goes without saying that we only offer rugs made under fair conditions and without child labour.
We attach particular importance to humane working conditions and tolerate no child labour at any of our producers. Thank you for helping us to ensure fair conditions.
That is why we support the initiative Care & Fair against child labour in the rug trade.
