This one-of-a-kind piece in dark grey/anthracite combines traditional craftsmanship with timeless elegance. With a knot density of approx. X knots per m², the elaborate workmanship is evident above all in the precise drawing of the design and the fine execution of the details. At 200 × 152 cm it is well suited as a living room rug. The harmonious colouring and the characteristic texture lend any room an exclusive, homely atmosphere. A rug of this quality is far more than a furnishing item – it is a piece of traditional textile art with individual character and lasting value.

Origin
Kelims (also kilim, qilim) were traditionally made only for the weavers' own use. Nomads and farmers used, and still use, their flat-woven kelims as rugs on the floor, but also as tent or wall hangings, blankets, cushions or bags. With our new kelims we have developed the traditional Iranian weaving technique further, so that we can make kelims that are considerably firmer and thicker. We call this new generation of kelims Kelim Hoch2.For our Kelim Hoch2 we wrap new wool dyed with natural colours around thick strands of coarsely spun new wool, creating firm panels with an extraordinary texture. We then sew these panels, in different colours and patterns, together with coarse stitches until we reach the width we want. The result is contemporary, extremely hard-wearing kelims with simple patterns and harmonious shades.
Material
The technique used to make the materials for the pile of this Kelim Hoch2 is more than 200 years old. The wool was dyed with natural colours and spun by hand. Dyeing with natural or plant dyes is more complicated, more expensive and more time-consuming than dyeing with chemical colours. For a luminous red, for example, you need around one kilo of ground madder root as dye per kilo of wool. For a strong yellow that isn't too pale, you even need two kilograms of the dye weld per kilo of wool. Spinning the wool is time-consuming and labour-intensive too. And fewer and fewer people still know how to spin wool by hand. But the effort is worth it: dyeing with natural colours allows the high-quality wool to keep its natural oil content. Wool that has been dyed with natural colours and spun by hand creates fascinating, shimmering patterns. The charm of hand-spun wool, with its slight irregularities and natural shades, comes into its own as a contrast in modern interiors, but equally in rooms furnished in a more traditional or country style.

Child labour? No thanks.
Child labour? No thanks. Children belong in school, not at a knotting frame or a loom. For us it therefore goes without saying that we only offer rugs made under fair conditions and without child labour.
We attach particular importance to humane working conditions and tolerate no child labour at any of our producers. Thank you for helping us to ensure fair conditions.
That is why we support the initiative Care & Fair against child labour in the rug trade.
