Kerman Lavar
Craftsmanship and timeless elegance come together in this rug in light red and dark blue. A knot density of approx. 300,000 knots per m² makes the painstaking workmanship visible – right down to the fine execution of the details. At 530 × 300 cm it is well placed as a runner for hallway and entryway. It shows to equally good effect in a long corridor or on the landing. Colouring and texture give any room a homely, exclusive note – a one-of-a-kind piece that will last for years.

Origin
The city of Kerman (also Kirman) lies in the south-east of Persia at around 2,000 metres above sea level. Kerman sits on the old caravan routes and looks back on centuries of tradition in both craft and trade. Kerman is mentioned in Marco Polo's travel account Il Milione. Rugs from Kerman are marked by fine patterns, flowing lines and soft gradations of colour. The classic patterns of the 19th century are often figurative. Hunting scenes and animals were depicted, as were mythological figures and historical personalities. The broad palette of Kerman rugs is enriched above all by its many shades of red, traditionally obtained from the cochineal insect. This rug comes from the village of Levar near Kerman, yet it shows the pattern typical of Kerman rugs.
Material
The pile of this Kerman Lavar was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by shearing sheep gently. New wool is a renewable, natural raw material with a range of impressive qualities: thanks to the natural grease in the wool, the surface repels water droplets and is therefore naturally proofed against dirt. Wool also provides excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and absorbs sound. The weft and warp threads of this Kerman Lavar are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and elastic, which makes it particularly well suited to a hard-wearing foundation weave.
Condition
This Kerman Lavar has had admirers before you. The pile is worn in places. A few repaired areas can be seen on the rug. It was knotted around 1980. We have cleaned it thoroughly and restored it with care. That is why – despite its age – it is in very good condition.
A note on the photos
Child labour? No thanks.
Child labour? No thanks. Children belong in school, not at a knotting frame or a loom. For us it therefore goes without saying that we only offer rugs made under fair conditions and without child labour.
We attach particular importance to humane working conditions and tolerate no child labour at any of our producers. Thank you for helping us to ensure fair conditions.
That is why we support the initiative Care & Fair against child labour in the rug trade.
