This one-of-a-kind piece in dark blue brings together traditional craftsmanship and timeless elegance. With a knot density of approx. 160,000 knots per m², the elaborate workmanship shows above all in the precise drawing and the fine execution of the details. At 51 × 49 cm, it is well suited as a small living-room rug. The harmonious colouring and the characteristic texture give any room an exclusive, homely atmosphere. A rug of this quality is far more than a piece of furnishing – it is a piece of traditional textile art with a character of its own and lasting value.

Origin
The city of Kerman (also Kirman) lies in the south-east of Persia at around 2,000 metres above sea level. Kerman sits on the old caravan routes and looks back on centuries of tradition in both craft and trade. Kerman is mentioned in Marco Polo's travel account Il Milione. Rugs from Kerman are marked by fine patterns, flowing lines and soft gradations of colour. The classic patterns of the 19th century are often figurative. Hunting scenes and animals were depicted, as were mythological figures and historical personalities. The broad palette of Kerman rugs is enriched above all by its many shades of red, traditionally obtained from the cochineal insect.
Material
The pile of this Kerman was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by shearing sheep gently. It is a renewable, natural raw material with a range of impressive properties: thanks to the wool's natural grease content, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally proofed against dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, has a balancing effect on the indoor climate and dampens sound. The weft and warp threads of this Kerman are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and has some give, which makes it particularly well suited to a hard-wearing foundation.
Condition
You are not the first to take a liking to this Kerman. It has had owners before you who valued and used it. It was knotted around 46. It has been thoroughly cleaned and is in good but only partly restored condition. The edges are damaged in places. We have not fully restored this Kerman because we feel it has a special charm just as it is. If you would like us to, we will of course be happy to continue the restoration for you. We can bring almost any rug back to near-perfect condition.
A note on the photos
Child labour? No thanks.
Child labour? No thanks. Children belong in school, not at a knotting frame or a loom. For us it therefore goes without saying that we only offer rugs made under fair conditions and without child labour.
We attach particular importance to humane working conditions and tolerate no child labour at any of our producers. Thank you for helping us to ensure fair conditions.
That is why we support the initiative Care & Fair against child labour in the rug trade.
