Mamlouk

This rug in brown exists just once in this form: it combines traditional craftsmanship with timeless elegance. At approx. 250k-300k knots per m², the workmanship is correspondingly demanding, evident in the crisp pattern definition and the finely worked details. Its 124 × 79 cm make it a natural bedside rug. It shows to equally good effect in the bedroom or hallway. Colour and texture lend the room a homely atmosphere – with a character no second rug shares.

Origin

Mamlouk rugs (occasionally spelled Mamluk) were knotted in Egypt above all in the 15th century and are found almost exclusively in museums today. This Mamlouk rug is a new take on the classic pattern, which is defined by a wealth of different geometric shapes that give the rug a kaleidoscopic effect.

Material

The pile of this Mamlouk was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing live sheep. It is a renewable, natural raw material with a whole range of impressive qualities: thanks to the wool's natural lanolin content, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally protected against dirt. Wool also provides excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and absorbs sound.

A note on the photos

The colours of this rug change depending on which side you look at it from. It all depends on whether the light falls with the nap of the pile or against it. That is why we have photographed the rug from several angles.

Child labour? No thanks.

Child labour? No thanks. Children belong in school, not at a knotting frame or a loom. For us it therefore goes without saying that we only offer rugs made under fair conditions and without child labour.

We attach particular importance to humane working conditions and tolerate no child labour at any of our producers. Thank you for helping us to ensure fair conditions.

That is why we support the initiative Care & Fair against child labour in the rug trade.
