Mamlouk

This one-of-a-kind piece in light grey combines traditional craftsmanship with timeless elegance. A knot density of approx. 250k-300k knots per m² makes the painstaking work visible – right down to the fine detailing. At 150 × 103 cm, it is well placed as a rug for the bedroom or study. It shows to equal advantage in a child's room or a dressing room. The harmonious colouring and the characteristic texture lend any room an exclusive, homely atmosphere. Origin

Mamlouk rugs (occasionally spelled Mamluk) were knotted in Egypt above all in the 15th century and are found almost exclusively in museums today. This Mamlouk rug is a new take on the classic pattern, which is defined by a wealth of different geometric shapes that give the rug a kaleidoscopic effect.

Material

The pile of this Mamlouk was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing live sheep. It is a renewable, natural raw material with a whole range of impressive qualities: thanks to the wool's natural lanolin content, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally protected against dirt. Wool also provides excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and absorbs sound.
