Mamlouk

This one-of-a-kind piece in light grey brings together traditional craftsmanship and timeless elegance. With a knot density of approx. 250k-300k knots per m², the elaborate workmanship shows above all in the precise drawing of the design and the fine execution of the details. At 203 × 151 cm, it works well as a living room rug. The harmonious colouring and the characteristic texture give any room an exclusive, homely atmosphere. Origin

Mamlouk rugs (occasionally spelled Mamluk) were knotted in Egypt above all in the 15th century and are found almost exclusively in museums today. This Mamlouk rug is a new take on the classic pattern, which is defined by a wealth of different geometric shapes that give the rug a kaleidoscopic effect.

Material

The pile of this Mamlouk was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing live sheep. It is a renewable, natural raw material with a whole range of impressive qualities: thanks to the wool's natural lanolin content, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally protected against dirt. Wool also provides excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and absorbs sound.
