Mamlouk

This rug in brown brings together traditional craftsmanship and timeless elegance. At around 250k-300k knots per m² the workmanship is correspondingly demanding, as you can see in the precise drawing of the pattern and the finely worked details. Its 306 × 244 cm make it a living room rug. As a one-of-a-kind piece it brings individual character to the room and holds its value far beyond short-lived trends.

Origin

Mamlouk rugs (occasionally spelled Mamluk) were knotted in Egypt above all in the 15th century and are found almost exclusively in museums today. This Mamlouk rug is a new take on the classic pattern, which is defined by a wealth of different geometric shapes that give the rug a kaleidoscopic effect.

Material

The pile of this Mamlouk was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing live sheep. It is a renewable, natural raw material with a whole range of impressive qualities: thanks to the wool's natural lanolin content, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally protected against dirt. Wool also provides excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and absorbs sound.
