Origin

This rug is one of the few machine-made rugs in our collection. Knotting and weaving rugs is an elaborate and lengthy process. Making rugs by hand takes a great deal of skill, time and care. Only in the 19th century, in the wake of the Industrial Revolution, did rug making gradually become mechanised. Wool could now be spun with motorised machines, and automated weaving and knotting looms made it possible to quickly and inexpensively produce rugs.

Today's automated knotting and weaving looms work with a multitude of yarns that are unwound from spools and fed in. The desired pattern is set digitally beforehand. In this way, rugs can be produced by machine in next to no time . By hand, production can take weeks, months or even years, depending on the material, the fineness and the size. That, of course, has a considerable effect on the price.

 

Pattern

The straight stripes of this Maschiny bring order and structure to the pattern.

The overall impression is dominated by blue-grey and dark blue.

 

Condition

You're not the first to take a liking to this Maschiny. It has had owners before you who valued and used it. The rug has a few small stains. It was machine-made in approximately 2018 . We have cleaned it thoroughly and lovingly restored it. It is therefore – despite its age – in very good condition.

 

Material

The pile of this Maschiny was made from cotton . The cotton plant is grown in most rug-producing countries, which makes it a very popular material for rug making. The weft and warp threads of this Maschiny are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and stretchy, which makes it especially suited to a hard-wearing foundation.
