Origin and design
In eastern Persia lies the region of Khorasan (Land of the Rising Sun) with its capital city of Meshad (also spelled Mashhad, Meshhed, or Meshad). Originally, the Timurdian capital of Herat, now in Afghanistan, was also part of this region. The typical patterns of Meshad carpets date from the 19th and 20th centuries and consist of small, seemingly endlessly repeating elements, some of which feature medallions.

The colors of this rug change depending on which side it is viewed from. It depends on whether the light falls on the line or against the line of the pile. We have therefore taken pictures of this rug from different perspectives.
