Meymeh is located in the center of Iran, about 100 km north of Isfahan. Meymeh rugs are typically decorated with small, symmetrical and geometric orchids surrounding a medallion that is also geometric. The center of the medallion is also decorated with a kind of flower cross. The border is typically decorated with a geometric Herati pattern. This design is known as "Djangali," which is Persian for jungle. Meymeh rugs are hand knotted using the Persian knot.
The abstract, geometric composition creates the simple elegance of this Meymeh. The pattern flatters the design of the room and does not take the attention away from its furniture, decoration and architectural elements. It creates a pleasant atmosphere without dominating the style of the room.
The embellished edging (border) forms a beautiful contrast to the center and creates a transition at the edge of the rug.
In the middle of the central field of this Meymeh is the symmetrical center, also called medallion. The design of the field is arranged in such a way that it gives the impression that the medallion is floating on the field.
The background of this Meymeh is dark red. The border features dark gray and beige. The dark gray center combines the colors dark green and beige.
You are not the first to appreciate this Meymeh. It has had owners before you who have cherished and used it. It was hand knotted about 1970. We have cleaned it thoroughly and restored it lovingly. Therefore it is in very good condition despite its age.
The pile of this Meymeh has been hand-knotted from high-quality virgin wool. Virgin wool is obtained through the gentle shearing of sheep. Virgin wool is a sustainable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties; due to the wool's natural fat content, the surface repels water droplets and is thus naturally impervious to dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, has a regulating effect on living climate and muffles sound. The weft and warp threads of this Meymeh are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and stretchable and, therefore, ideal for a durable backing fabric.
