Origin

This hand-knotted modern designer rug is a real eye-catcher and lifts any contemporary interior. For all its modern design, it makes any room feel warmer and more welcoming.

Pattern

The surface of this Mood has a mottled look. Shifts in tone and the light-and-dark shading of the pile yarn make the colours shimmer and keep the rug from showing dirt. These so-called colour shifts, known as abrash, give the rug a livelier feel. The mottling comes about because the wool of this Mood was hand-spun. During dyeing, the natural dyes are absorbed to differing degrees.

The colours of this Mood form a gradient and flow into one another.

The colours of this Mood glow in many shades.

Material

The technique used to make the materials for the pile of this Mood is over 200 years old. The wool was dyed with natural colours and spun by hand. Dyeing with natural or plant-based colours is more complicated, more expensive and more time-consuming than dyeing with chemical dyes. For a luminous red, for example, you need around one kilo of ground madder root as a dyestuff per kilo of wool. For a strong yellow that is not too pale it even takes two kilograms of the dyestuff weld per kilo of wool. Spinning the wool is time-consuming and labour-intensive as well. On top of that, fewer and fewer people still know how to spin wool by hand.

But the effort is worth it: dyeing with natural colours lets the high-quality wool keep its natural grease content. Wool dyed with natural colours and spun by hand creates fascinating, shifting patterns. The charm of hand-spun wool, with its slight irregularities and natural shades, comes into its own as a contrast in modern interiors, but equally in rooms furnished in a more traditional or country-house style. The weft and warp threads of this Mood are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and elastic and therefore particularly well suited to a hard-wearing foundation.
