Origin and design
In earlier times, eastern Iran relied on agriculture and livestock farming. Carpets were woven only for personal use. It wasn't until around 1830, when the governor of the provincial capital Mashhad sought exceptional carpets for his palace, that carpet production began to develop there. The renowned carpet weaver Amini had his high-quality carpets woven in the small town of Moud (also spelled Mood, Moudt, or Mud), thus giving the carpets of this region their name. A larger production center developed in the neighboring town of Birdjend, which is why Mood carpets are also sold under the name Birdjend. All Moud carpets share a common color scheme of vibrant blue and red on a beige background. They are woven using an asymmetrical knot. Mood carpets can be identified on the reverse side by the white warp threads that show through.
Notes on our photos:
The colors of this rug change depending on which side it is viewed from. It depends on whether the light falls on the line or against the line of the pile. We have therefore taken pictures of this rug from different perspectives.
Child Labor? No Thanks!
