Origin

Modern hand-knotted Oushak rugs are a beautiful combination of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design.

Oushak rugs have been made in Turkey for centuries and are known for their characteristic colours and mostly large, floral patterns. We have reinterpreted the traditional Oushak rug to suit contemporary interiors. Bright, bold colours and partly abstract patterns give Oushak rugs a contemporary, refreshing aesthetic. Special dyeing and washing techniques give our Oushak rugs their distinctive vintage look.

Pattern

The decorated surround (border) forms a beautiful contrast to the centre and shapes the transition at the edge of the rug.

The abstract, geometric composition is what gives this Oushak its understated elegance. The pattern flatters the design of the room and doesn't take attention away from the furniture, the decoration and the architectural elements. It creates a pleasant atmosphere without dominating the style of the room.

The background of this Oushak is beige. The border is kept in light blue.

Condition

You aren't the first to take a liking to this Oushak. It had owners before you who valued it and used it. The pile is lightly worn. It was hand-knotted around 1970. We have cleaned it thoroughly and restored it with care. As a result it is – despite its age – in very good condition.

Material

The pile of this Oushak was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. New wool is a renewable, natural raw material with a range of impressive properties: thanks to the wool's natural grease content, the surface repels droplets of water and is naturally protected against dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, has a regulating effect on the indoor climate and dampens sound. The foundation (weft and warp threads) of this Oushak is made of new wool.
