Origin and design

The pattern of this hand-knotted Oxiana rug is inspired by traditional Uzbek designs. Originally, rugs with a similar pattern were primarily woven in the region around Samarkand and Oxiana. Our Oxiana rugs are tailored to contemporary tastes: harmonious color compositions of natural pigments complement the traditional pattern. The Oxiana rugs feature colorful horizontal stripes that alternate with imaginatively patterned sections. The patterned sections display geometric compositions reminiscent of a Kazak design. A characteristic feature is that the fringes are gathered into small bundles and wrapped with multicolored threads.

The colors of this rug change depending on which side it is viewed from. It depends on whether the light falls on the line or against the line of the pile. We have therefore taken pictures of this rug from different perspectives.
