Origin
The inspiration for this hand-knotted designer rug comes from the captivating reflections on the surface of water. Of course, other associations are just as valid and just as welcome. The result is a modern design that settles beautifully into contemporary interiors. The patterns, at times almost kaleidoscopic, make this rug a real eye-catcher that lends any room a welcoming, cosy atmosphere.
Pattern
The surface of this “Reflections” rug has a mottled texture. The shifts in colour and the light-and-dark shading in the pile yarn make the colours shimmer and help the rug shrug off dirt. These so-called colour jumps (abrash) give the rug a livelier look. The mottling comes from the hand-spun yarn used here, which takes up the natural dyes a little differently from strand to strand.
A striking feature of this rug is the play of different pile heights. Some areas of the pattern sit higher than others, giving the rug an appealing texture and a sense of depth. Modern rugs tend towards the plainer and more abstract, and this one follows that development while still achieving an extraordinary effect.
The pattern draws on classic Oriental ornament, yet it looks as though the rug already has a long history behind it. The soft washes and faded details give the design an almost abstract quality. Despite this nostalgic air, the rug is brand new and belongs to the latest generation of contemporary rug design. It bridges modern design and classic Oriental motifs, settling just as easily into modern interiors as into traditional ones. The pattern stays restrained, and yet it has a strong presence.
Beige and blue-grey dominate the overall impression, creating a calm and harmonious atmosphere.
Material
The pile of this “Reflections” rug is a hard-wearing blend of wool and viscose. Viscose (also called viscose rayon, acetate silk or rayon) is made from cellulose, a natural material obtained from wood. In India, the cellulose pulp is often sourced from bamboo. In an elaborate process, this pulpy cellulose is turned into a continuous textile yarn, also known as filament yarn. Because of its silky sheen, the yarn made from bamboo is also called “bamboo silk”. The term “artificial silk” is not correct under the German Textile Labelling Act (TKG).
The weft and warp threads of this rug are cotton. This versatile material is particularly tear-resistant and elastic, which makes it ideal for a hard-wearing foundation.
A note on the photos
Child labour? No thanks.
Child labour? No thanks. Children belong in school, not at a knotting frame or a loom. For us it therefore goes without saying that we only offer rugs made under fair conditions and without child labour.
We attach particular importance to humane working conditions and tolerate no child labour at any of our producers. Thank you for helping us to ensure fair conditions.
That is why we support the initiative Care & Fair against child labour in the rug trade.
