Rudbar

This one-of-a-kind piece in dark blue brings together traditional craftsmanship and timeless elegance. With a knot density of approx. 120,000 knots per m², the elaborate workmanship shows above all in the precise drawing of the pattern and the fine execution of the details. At 500 × 120 cm it works well as a living room rug. The harmonious colouring and the characteristic texture lend any room an exclusive, homely atmosphere. A rug of this quality is far more than a piece of furnishing – it is a piece of traditional textile art with individual character and lasting value.

Origin

The small town of Rudbar lies in north-western Iran. It became famous for its embroidery. Rugs are made in Rudbar in relatively small quantities. This little town produces fine knotted work in the style of the Herat pattern, either as an all-over design or as a field pattern dominated by a hexagon, with the rest of the field decorated in Herati motifs. Great craftsmanship usually shows in the pale floral border with its artful, delicate drawing.

Material

The pile of this Rudbar was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. New wool is a renewable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties: thanks to the natural lanolin content of the wool, the surface repels droplets of water and is thus naturally protected against dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, has a regulating effect on the indoor climate and dampens sound.

The weft and warp threads of this Rudbar are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and elastic, which makes it particularly suited to a hard-wearing foundation.

Condition

This Rudbar has had admirers before you. It was knotted around 56. We have cleaned it thoroughly and restored it with care. Despite its age, it is therefore in very good condition.
