This one-of-a-kind piece in light red and beige combines traditional craftsmanship with timeless elegance. A knot density of approx. 240,000 knots per m² makes the elaborate workmanship visible – right down to the fine execution of the details. At 109 × 72 cm it is well placed as a bedside rug. It also looks the part in a reading corner. The harmonious colouring and the distinctive texture lend any room an exclusive, homely atmosphere. A rug of this quality is far more than a furnishing item – it is a piece of traditional textile art with individual character and lasting value.

Origin

The town of Senneh is called Sanandadj today and is the hub of the west Persian province of Kurdistan. Incidentally, alongside its rugs, Sanandadj is famous throughout Iran for its backgammon sets handcrafted from walnut burl wood. Senneh rugs are now sometimes referred to as Sanandadj rugs as well. Classic Senneh rugs have only a single weft thread, which makes them easy to identify from the back. The more finely they are knotted, the shorter the pile is sheared.

Material

The pile of this Senneh is made of cotton. The cotton plant grows in most rug-producing countries, which makes it a very popular material for rug making.

The weft threads of this Senneh are made of wool. Cotton was used for the warp threads.

Condition

You are not the first to take a liking to this Senneh. It has had owners before you who valued and used it. It was knotted around 1985. It has been thoroughly cleaned and is in good but unrestored condition. We have not restored this Senneh because we feel it has a special presence just as it is. If you would like us to, we will of course gladly restore it for you. Either way, this Senneh will give you pleasure for decades to come.

A note on the photos

The colours of this rug change depending on which side you look at it from. It all depends on whether the light falls with the nap of the pile or against it. That is why we have photographed the rug from several angles.
