Senneh
This one-of-a-kind piece in rust red brings together traditional craftsmanship and timeless elegance. With a knot density of around 150,000 knots per m², the elaborate workmanship shows above all in the precise drawing of the design and the fine execution of the details. At 155 × 110 cm it works beautifully as a small living-room rug. The harmonious colouring and the characteristic texture give any room an exclusive, homely atmosphere. Origin
The town of Senneh is called Sanandadj today and is the hub of the west Persian province of Kurdistan. Incidentally, alongside its rugs, Sanandadj is famous throughout Iran for its backgammon sets handcrafted from walnut burl wood. Senneh rugs are now sometimes referred to as Sanandadj rugs as well. Classic Senneh rugs have only a single weft thread, which makes them easy to identify from the back. The more finely they are knotted, the shorter the pile is sheared.
Material
The pile of this Senneh was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. New wool is a renewable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties: thanks to the natural lanolin in the wool, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally protected against dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, has a regulating effect on the indoor climate and dampens sound.The weft and warp threads of this Senneh are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and elastic, which makes it particularly well suited to a hard-wearing foundation.
Condition
This Senneh has had admirers before you. It was knotted around 46. We have cleaned it thoroughly and lovingly restored it. Despite its age, it is therefore in very good condition.
