Place of origin
The city of Senneh is now called Sanandaj and is in the center of the West Persian province of Kurdistan. In Iran, Sanandaj is famous for handmade backgammon boards made of walnut root wood, as well as rugs. Senneh rugs are also sometimes called Sanandaj rugs today. The classic Senneh rugs have only one weft thread, so they are easy to identify from the back. The finer they are knotted, the flatter the pile is sheared.
The abstract, geometric composition creates the simple elegance of this Senneh. The pattern flatters the design of the room and does not take the attention away from its furniture, decoration and architectural elements. It blends in fantastically with any surroundings and subtly complements the interior design of a room..
The embellished edging (border) forms a excellent contrast to the center and creates a transition at the edge of the rug.
The recurring pattern (so-called repeating pattern) flatters the design of the room and does not take attention away from the furniture, the decoration and architectural elements. It blends in fantastically with any surroundings and subtly complements the interior design of a room.. In this Senneh the repeating elements give way to the symmetrical medallion in the center of the panel.
The background of this Senneh is rusty red. The border features dark blue and rusty red. The beige center combines the colors gold and dark brown.
You are not the first to appreciate this Senneh. It has had owners before you who have cherished and used it. It was hand knotted about 1980. We have cleaned it thoroughly and restored it lovingly. Therefore it is in very good condition despite its age.
The pile of this Senneh has been hand-knotted from high-quality virgin wool. Virgin wool is obtained through the gentle shearing of sheep. Virgin wool is a sustainable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties; due to the wool's natural fat content, the surface repels water droplets and is thus naturally impervious to dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, has a regulating effect on living climate and muffles sound. The weft and warp threads of this Senneh are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and stretchable and, therefore, ideal for a durable backing fabric.
