This rug in gold-beige combines traditional craftsmanship with timeless elegance. With a knot density of around 160,000 knots per m², the elaborate workmanship shows above all in the precise drawing of the design and the fine execution of the details. At 246 × 171 cm it works well as a living room rug. It shows to equally good effect in an office. Origin

When designing this hand-knotted rug, what mattered most to us was simplicity and a focus on the essentials. The result is a modern, straight-lined design that sits beautifully in contemporary interiors. Despite its cool, understated look, this rug makes any room feel homelier and more welcoming.

Material

The pile of this Straight is made of hemp and new wool. Hemp is obtained from the bast of the hemp plant, the tissue just beneath the bark. Hemp makes this rug particularly robust and hard-wearing. The hemp fibres feel coarse to the touch and are around three times as durable as cotton. Compared with cotton, though, the hemp plant can be grown in a more environmentally friendly way, which is one reason it keeps gaining in popularity. Because they are kind to nature and so robust, hemp rugs are a favourite choice for heavily used living areas.

In this Straight, the hemp fibres have been combined with pure new wool that was dyed with natural colours and spun by hand. The new wool takes the roughness out of the hemp and gives the rug a pleasant feel.

The weft threads of this Straight are made of cotton. Wool was used for the warp threads.

Condition

You are not the first to take a liking to this Straight. It has had owners before you who valued and used it. It was knotted around 2010. It has been cleaned thoroughly and is in good but only partly restored condition. There are a few stains. We have not fully restored this Straight because we feel it has a special charm just as it is. If you would like us to, we will of course happily carry on restoring the rug for you. We can bring almost any rug back to near-perfect condition.

A note on the photos

The colours of this rug change depending on which side you look at it from. It all depends on whether the light falls with the nap of the pile or against it. That is why we have photographed the rug from several angles.
