With approx. 160,000 knots per m², the workmanship is correspondingly elaborate, as you can see in the precise drawing of the pattern and the finely worked details. Its 314 × 226 cm make it a large living room rug. It also looks just as good in an open-plan living and dining area. Origin

Standing on Persia's northern border at the crossroads of countless caravan routes, the city of Tabriz (also written Tabris or Täbriz) has always been a melting pot of different ethnic and religious groups. Although the city lies on the border with Azerbaijan, the dialect spoken in Tabriz is related to Turkish. The bazaars of Tabriz have traded in craftwork for centuries, and above all in rugs from the surrounding villages.

Material

The pile of this Tabriz was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. New wool is a renewable, natural raw material with a whole range of impressive properties: thanks to the natural lanolin in the wool, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally protected against dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and absorbs sound.

The weft and warp threads of this Tabriz are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and elastic, which makes it particularly suitable for a hard-wearing foundation weave.

Condition

You are not the first to take a liking to this Tabriz. It has had owners before you who valued and used it. It was knotted around 1985. It has been cleaned thoroughly and is in good but unrestored condition. The fringes could do with a repair. The rug has a few smaller, not very noticeable stains and discolourations. We have not restored this Tabriz, because we feel it has a particular charm just as it is. If you would prefer otherwise, we will of course gladly restore the rug for you. Either way, this Tabriz will bring you pleasure for decades to come.

A note on the photos

The colours of this rug change depending on which side you look at it from. It all depends on whether the light falls with the nap of the pile or against it. That is why we have photographed the rug from several angles.
