This one-of-a-kind piece in cream white brings together traditional craftsmanship and timeless elegance. A knot density of around 160,000 knots per m² makes the elaborate workmanship visible – right down to the finely worked details. At 300 × 240 cm it is well placed as a large living room rug. It shows to equally good effect in the dining room beneath a table for six to eight. The harmonious colouring and the distinctive texture give any room an exclusive, homely atmosphere. Origin

In designing this hand-knotted rug, what mattered most to us was simplicity and paring things back to the essentials. The result is a modern, abstract design that sits beautifully in contemporary interiors. Despite its cool, pared-back look, this rug makes any room feel warmer and more welcoming.

Material

The pile of this Terra is made of hemp and new wool. Hemp is obtained from the bast of the hemp plant, the tissue that lies beneath the bark. Hemp makes this rug particularly robust and hard-wearing. The hemp fibres feel coarse to the touch and are about three times as durable as cotton. Compared with cotton, however, the hemp plant can be grown in a more environmentally friendly way, which is one reason it keeps gaining in popularity. Thanks to this environmental friendliness and their robust character, hemp rugs are a favourite choice for heavily used living areas.

In this Terra the hemp fibres have been combined with pure new wool that was dyed with natural dyes and spun by hand. The new wool takes the roughness out of the hemp and gives the rug a pleasant feel.

The weft and warp threads of this Terra are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and elastic, which makes it particularly well suited to a hard-wearing foundation.

A note on the photos

The colours of this rug change depending on which side you look at it from. It all depends on whether the light falls with the nap of the pile or against it. That is why we have photographed the rug from several angles.
