Origin

In designing this hand-knotted rug, what mattered most to us was simplicity and paring things back to the essentials. The result is a modern, abstract design that sits beautifully in contemporary interiors. Despite its cool, pared-back look, this rug makes any room feel warmer and more welcoming.

Pattern

The clear, abstract design of this contemporary rug speaks especially to people who love clean, modern interiors and architecture. The design idea for this rug comes from Europe. Free from the rules of traditional rug patterns, it was developed for Western art and interior design. This is not an entirely new development. The roots of European rug design go back to Art Deco rugs that were made to Western specifications between the late 1920s and the 1950s.

Individual areas of the pattern have a higher pile than the rest of this rug. The patterns of modern rugs are tending to become simpler and more abstract. The play with different pile heights is new and has replaced more elaborate and more insistent patterns. Because parts of the pattern have been brought out two-dimensionally, however, the rug is anything but dull. The accentuation is out of the ordinary and creates an effect all of its own.

The background of this Terra is black. The overall impression is also dominated by the colours light brown and black.

Material

The pile of this Terra is made of a hard-wearing blend of wool and Viscose. Viscose, also known as acetate silk or rayon, is generally obtained from the natural product cellulose, in other words from wood as a raw material. In India the cellulose pulp is obtained from bamboo. In an elaborate process, the pulpy cellulose is drawn into a continuous textile yarn. That is why viscose is also called a continuous filament yarn. Because of the silky sheen of the yarn, viscose obtained from bamboo is also called "Bamboo Silk", bamboo silk. The colloquial term "artificial silk" is not permitted under the German Textile Labelling Act (TKG). The weft and warp threads of this Terra are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and stretchy, which makes it especially suited to a hard-wearing foundation.
