Origin
Tetex rugs come from the manufactory of the same name, which produced rugs in Germany (and later in Belgium) in the 20th century. Tetex rugs were usually tufted – a method that made it possible to produce high-quality rugs comparatively quickly. The result was rugs with an Oriental look that still delight today with their distinctive, often large-scale patterns. A wonderful retro rug that recalls times gone by – and is as contemporary today as it ever was.
Pattern
The decorated surround (border) forms a wonderful contrast to the centre and shapes the transition at the edge of the rug.
The abstract, geometric composition is what gives this Tetex rug its understated elegance. The pattern flatters the design of the room and never steals attention from the furniture, the decor or the architectural details. It creates a pleasant atmosphere without dominating the style of the room.
The background of this Tetex rug is light red. The border is worked in light red, blue-grey and black and white.
Condition
This Tetex rug has a story to tell. It was hand-tufted around 1955. It has been cleaned thoroughly and is in good but unrestored condition. Some areas of the rug have discoloured. The rug has a few small stains. We haven't restored this Tetex rug because we feel it has a special presence just as it is. If that's what you'd like, we'll happily restore the rug for you. Either way, this Tetex rug will give you pleasure for decades to come.
Material
The pile of this Tetex rug was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. New wool is a renewable, natural raw material with a whole range of impressive qualities: thanks to the natural lanolin in the wool, the surface repels droplets of water and is naturally protected against dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and absorbs sound.
A note on the photos
Child labour? No thanks.
Child labour? No thanks. Children belong in school, not at a knotting frame or a loom. For us it therefore goes without saying that we only offer rugs made under fair conditions and without child labour.
We attach particular importance to humane working conditions and tolerate no child labour at any of our producers. Thank you for helping us to ensure fair conditions.
That is why we support the initiative Care & Fair against child labour in the rug trade.
