Origin and design

The pattern of this New Shirvan is based on the design elements of classic Bakhtiari carpets. However, this particular carpet was not woven in the Caucasus, but in Pakistan. Shirvan (also spelled Shirvan) carpets are hand-knotted in the Shirvan region of the eastern Caucasus. Shirvan carpets are woven from exceptionally fine wool and have a low pile. Antique Shirvans are highly prized and valued by collectors in Europe. A characteristic feature of Shirvan carpets is their wide border. The field is often dominated by imaginative geometric patterns. These carpets are typically woven in blue, but also in red and ivory. The multicolored patterns result in a subtle and diverse range of colors.
