Origin
An enchanting piece of textile from times gone by.This antique textile piece is a collector's item. It is around 176 years old, and for that reason alone a truly special piece. Antique rugs such as this antique textile piece are still very much in demand and are sold at top prices by renowned auction houses.
Material
The silk of the pile of this antique textile piece makes the colours of the pattern shine in ever-changing facets, depending on how the light falls. It turns this antique textile piece into a real highlight and creates an atmosphere in the room that is cosy and at the same time very elegant and refined. Silk is obtained by hand from the cocoons of the silkworm. Because the individual silk filaments are extremely long, very fine yarns can be spun that are light in weight yet still tear-resistant. This fine yarn makes it possible to tie smaller rug knots and so to create finer patterns. That is why the finest rugs in the world are hand-knotted from pure silk.
Condition
You are not the first to take a liking to this antique textile piece. It has had owners before you who valued and used it. It was knotted in around 176. It has been thoroughly cleaned and is in good but only partly restored condition. We have not fully restored this antique textile piece, because we feel it has a special charm just as it is. If you would like us to, we will of course gladly carry on restoring the rug for you. We can bring almost any rug back to near-perfect condition.
A note on the photos
Child labour? No thanks.
Child labour? No thanks. Children belong in school, not at a knotting frame or a loom. For us it therefore goes without saying that we only offer rugs made under fair conditions and without child labour.
We attach particular importance to humane working conditions and tolerate no child labour at any of our producers. Thank you for helping us to ensure fair conditions.
That is why we support the initiative Care & Fair against child labour in the rug trade.
