This one-of-a-kind piece in dark red combines traditional craftsmanship with timeless elegance. With a knot density of around 90,000 knots per m², the elaborate workmanship shows above all in the precise drawing of the design and the fine execution of the details. At 155 × 103 cm, it works beautifully as a small living room rug. The harmonious colouring and the characteristic texture lend any room an exclusive, homely atmosphere. A rug of this quality is far more than a furnishing item – it is a piece of traditional textile art with individual character and lasting value.

Origin

Chenar (also romanised as Chenār) is a small village of just under 300 inhabitants in the Iranian province of Lorestan.

This Old Chenar is around 66 years old and a real collector's piece.

Material

The pile of this Old Chenar was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by shearing sheep gently. New wool is a renewable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties: thanks to the wool's natural oil content, the surface repels droplets of water and is thus naturally protected against dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, has a regulating effect on the indoor climate and dampens sound.

The weft and warp threads of this Old Chenar are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and flexible, making it particularly suitable for a hard-wearing foundation.

Condition

This Old Chenar has had admirers before you. It was knotted around 66. It has been cleaned thoroughly and is in good but only partly restored condition. The pile is slightly worn. The fringes could do with a repair. We have not fully restored this Old Chenar because we feel it has a special presence just as it is. If that is what you would like, we will of course be happy to restore it further for you. We can bring almost any rug back to near-perfect condition.

A note on the photos

The colours of this rug change depending on which side you look at it from. It all depends on whether the light falls with the nap of the pile or against it. That is why we have photographed the rug from several angles.
