Kordi

This rug in curry orange combines traditional craftsmanship with timeless elegance. At around 120,000 knots per m², the work involved is correspondingly demanding, as you can see in the precise drawing of the design and the finely worked details. Its 104 × 55 cm make it a small living room rug. As a one-of-a-kind piece it brings individual character to the room and holds its value far beyond short-lived trends.

Origin

Kordi (also Kord or Kurdi) is a collective term for rugs from Iran that are hand-knotted by Kurds. Koliai and Khorasan rugs are therefore, if you like, Kordi rugs too. As a rule, Kurdi rugs come from the Khorasan province. Less often they also come from the Turkmen-Afghan region.

In their rug knotting, the Kurds draw on every one of the classic provenances (source, origin). They don't copy the traditional patterns slavishly, though, but reinterpret them in their own distinctive way. The colouring in particular often departs considerably from the original patterns. That's why you'll find the most varied designs among Kordi rugs, though usually in a rather dark palette.

Material

The pile of this Kordi was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. New wool is a renewable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties: thanks to the natural lanolin content of the wool, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally protected against dirt. Wool also provides excellent thermal insulation, has a regulating effect on the indoor climate and dampens sound.

The weft threads of this Kordi are made of wool. Cotton was used for the warp threads.

Condition

This Kordi has a story to tell. Name chosen for printing only, still needs to be checked. It was knotted around 61. We have cleaned it thoroughly and restored it with great care. Despite its age, it is therefore in very good condition.
