This one-of-a-kind piece in beige brings together traditional craftsmanship and timeless elegance. With a knot density of approx. 150,000 knots per m², the elaborate workmanship shows above all in the precise drawing of the design and the fine execution of the details. At 180 × 130 cm it suits a small living-room rug. The harmonious colouring and the characteristic texture lend any room an exclusive, homely atmosphere. Origin

This Kars rug was knotted by Caucasian people living around the town of Kars. With just under 90,000 inhabitants, Kars lies in north-eastern Anatolia, some 45 km west of the border with Armenia and 65 km south of the Turkish-Georgian border, at an altitude of 1768 m.

Material

The pile of this Kars was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. It is a renewable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties: thanks to the wool's natural lanolin content, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally protected against dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and dampens sound.

The foundation (weft and warp threads) of this Kars is made of new wool.

Condition

You are not the first to take a liking to this Kars. It has had owners before you who valued and used it. It was knotted around 46. We have cleaned it thoroughly and restored it with care. Despite its age, it is therefore in very good condition.

A note on the photos

The colours of this rug change depending on which side you look at it from. It all depends on whether the light falls with the nap of the pile or against it. That is why we have photographed the rug from several angles.
