Craftsmanship and timeless elegance come together in this rug in light brown. A knot density of around 120,000 knots per m² makes the elaborate workmanship visible – right down to the finely worked details. At 413 × 94 cm, it is in good hands as a runner or hallway rug. Its colouring and texture give any room a homely, exclusive note – a one-of-a-kind piece that will last for years.

Origin
The rug region of Sarab borders the district of Tabriz to the west and Ardebil to the east. The small town of Sarab thus lies right in the middle of one of Iran's largest rug-knotting areas. The famous and refined Serapi rugs are knotted in the town of Sarab. Knotted with Turkish knots, Sarab rugs are distinguished by a firm knot, a double weft thread and a dense wool pile. As its primary ornament, the typical Sarab pattern usually features a hexagon that repeats several times and is often interrupted by a diamond.
Material
The pile of this Sarab was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. It is a renewable, natural raw material with a whole range of impressive properties: thanks to the wool's natural lanolin content, the surface repels droplets of water and is naturally protected against dirt. Wool also provides excellent thermal insulation, has a balancing effect on the indoor climate and absorbs sound. The weft and warp threads of this Sarab are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and supple, which makes it particularly well suited to a hard-wearing foundation weave.
Condition
You are not the first to take a liking to this Sarab. It has had owners before you who valued and used it. Only the fringes are slightly damaged in a few places and could do with a repair, if you like to treat your rugs well. It was knotted around 56. We have cleaned it thoroughly and restored it with care. Despite its age, it is therefore in very good condition.
A note on the photos
Child labour? No thanks.
Child labour? No thanks. Children belong in school, not at a knotting frame or a loom. For us it therefore goes without saying that we only offer rugs made under fair conditions and without child labour.
We attach particular importance to humane working conditions and tolerate no child labour at any of our producers. Thank you for helping us to ensure fair conditions.
That is why we support the initiative Care & Fair against child labour in the rug trade.
