Origin and design

The pattern of this rug is inspired by the classic Tabriz pattern. However, this particular rug was hand-knotted in Albania.

The city of Tabriz, on the northern border of Persia, has always been a melting pot of diverse ethnic and religious groups due to its location at the crossroads of numerous caravan routes. Although the city is located in eastern Azerbaijan, the dialect spoken in Tabriz is of Turkish origin. Even today, handicrafts, and especially rugs, from the surrounding villages are traded in the bazaars of Tabriz. This is likely one of the reasons why the Tabriz pattern is considered one of the most influential traditional Oriental rug patterns.
