Place of origin

The pattern of this rug is inspired by the pattern of a classic Sarough. However, this rug has been knotted in China. This rug is from Sarough (also Sarouk, Saruk or Sarogh). Sarough is one of the most famous rug-making regions in Iran. Situated in the western Persian province of Aarak, it includes the provinces of Arak, Jozan, Ghiasabad, Mahal, Malayer, Mohajeran, Sultanabad and Wiss. In Sarough, Persian patterns of all types are knotted, sometimes even according to the customer's specifications. The neighboring Farahan as well as the local Sultanabad designs and the so-called Mir-i-Boteh pattern consisting of Paisley motifs are also favorably produced. Characteristic of this type of rug is the very good wool quality of the pile, since the new wool comes from the Persian highlands. However, the lower weave ( warp and weft ) is usually made of cotton. In old and antique rugs, a blue weft thread is often seen. The knotting is very fine and the pile is relatively high.

Patterns

The luxuriant flower motifs of this Sarough are elegant and varied. The graceful vegetative symbols representing flowers, leaves and branches are artfully intertwined.

The repeating elements in the center field of this Sarough rug have no specific center (so-called repeating pattern). The repeating pattern has a calming but not boring effect. Rugs with repeating patterns are also called patterned.

The edge of the rug is decorated with an edging (border). The border forms a excellent contrast to the center.

The background of this Sarough is light brown. The border features dark blue and off white.

Material

Chinese rugs are hand knotted from silky shiny wool. For the production of high quality Chinese rugs the coat of the Tibetan goat is used. The knot density is, as is typical in Chinese rugs, relatively low and the pile is shorn long.

Wool is obtained through the gentle shearing of sheep. Virgin wool is a sustainable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties: Due to wool's natural fat content, the surface repels water droplets and is thus naturally impervious to dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, has a regulating effect on the indoor climate and muffles sound. The weft and warp threads of this Sarough are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and stretchable and, therefore, ideal for a durable backing fabric.

The colors of this carpet change depending on which side it is viewed from. It depends on whether the light falls on the line or against the line of the pile. We have therefore taken pictures of this rug from different perspectives.
