Origin
This rug was made in the region Karabagh (or Gharabagh) hand-knotted in Azerbaijan. Typical for Gharabagh rugs is the floral motif on a dark background that is widespread in the Caucasus. But other geometric patterns are also knotted. .
Pattern
The abstract, geometric composition creates the simple elegance of this Gharabagh. The pattern flatters the design of the room and does not take away the attention from the furniture, decoration and architectural elements. It blends fantastically into any environment and subtly complements the décor of a room.
The edge of the carpet is covered by a Border (border) adorned. The border creates a nice contrast to the center.
The background of this Gharabagh is dark brown. The overall impression is that the rug shines in bright colors. The edge is in bright colors.
Condition
This Gharabagh has already had lovers before you. He was approx. 1910 hand-knotted. It has been thoroughly cleaned and is in good but only partially restored condition. The pile has worn off in places. The edges are partially defective. The fringes could use some repair. Parts of the border are missing on both sides. The rug has a tear with a length of 1 - 5 cm. We have not completely restored this Gharabagh because we think it has a special charm as it is. If you want that, we will of course be happy to further restore the rug for you. We can restore almost any rug to near perfect condition.
material
The technology used to create the materials for the pile of this Gharabagh is over 200 years old. The wool came with Natural colors colored and spun by hand. Dyeing with natural or vegetable dyes is more complicated, expensive and time-consuming than dyeing with chemical dyes. For a bright red, for example, you need around one kilo of ground madder root as a dye per kilo of wool. For a strong, not too pale yellow, you need two kilograms of the dye dye per kilo of wool. Spinning the wool is also time- and labor-intensive. In addition, fewer and fewer people are able to spin wool by hand.
But the effort is worth it: by dyeing with natural dyes, the high-quality wool retains its natural fat content. With Natural colors colored and hand-spun wool creates fascinating, iridescent patterns. The charm of hand-spun wool with its slight irregularities and natural colors unfolds as a contrast in modern interiors but also in rooms that are furnished in a more traditional or country house style. The base (weft and warp threads) of this Gharabagh consists of Virgin wool.
