Place of origin
The city of Tabriz on the northern border of Persia has always been a melting pot of different ethnic and religious groups, due to its location at the crossing of numerous caravan routes. Although the city is located in eastern Azerbaijan, the dialect spoken in Tabriz is closely related to the Turkish language. At the bazaars in Tabriz, handicrafts and especially rugs from the surrounding villages were and are traded.
Patterns
The embellished edging (border) forms a excellent contrast to the center and creates a transition at the edge of the rug.
The luxuriant flower motifs of this Tabriz are elegant and varied. The graceful vegetative symbols representing flowers, leaves and branches are artfully intertwined.
In the middle of the central field of this Tabriz is the symmetrical center, also called medallion. The design of the field is arranged in such a way that it gives the impression that the medallion is floating on the field.
The abstract, geometric composition creates the simple elegance of this Tabriz. The pattern flatters the design of the room and does not take the attention away from its furniture, decoration and architectural elements. It blends in fantastically with any surroundings and subtly complements the interior design of a room..
The background of this Tabriz is dark blue. The border features dark blue, light brown and beige. The dark blue center combines the colors light brown and beige.
Condition
You are not the first to appreciate this Tabriz. It has had owners before you who have cherished and used it. It was hand knotted about 1995. It has been thoroughly cleaned and only partially restored condition but is in good condition. We have not completely restored this Tabriz because we think it is as it is a special charm. If you would like, we will of course restore the rug further for you. We can restore almost any rug to an almost perfect condition.
Material
The pile of this Tabriz has been hand-knotted from cork wool and silk. Cork wool is a particularly fine, almost velvety knotting yarn. Cork wool is taken from the neck, belly and the insides of the legs of the sheep and is of particularly high quality. The pattern of this Tabriz is highlighted with shiny pure silk, which is manually extracted from the cocoons of the silk moth. The silk elements create a shimmering contrast and let the colors, depending on the lighting, shine in different facets. The weft and warp threads of this Tabriz are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and stretchable and, therefore, ideal for a durable backing fabric.
