Where this size really works

In an entrance area with a coat rack along one side, 150 × 100 cm covers the whole area you move across while putting on your coat. In front of a chest of drawers or a sideboard it creates a calm zone and protects the floor from scratches made by drawers and doors. In a children's room it is the play area in the middle of the floor; if the rug is to cover the whole room, that starts at 200 × 150 cm.

What to look for when buying

At this size people stand and sit on the rug, not just walk across it. In a children's room, what counts is that the wool is untreated and the colours natural. In an entrance area the opposite of comfort applies: dense, short pile, patterned rather than plain. If you have to choose between the two, go by how many hours a day someone actually stands on it.
