Origin

With the design of this hand-looped rug, simplicity and a focus on the essentials mattered most to us. The result is a modern, clean-lined design that works beautifully in contemporary interiors. Despite its cool, pared-back look, this rug makes any room feel more homely and welcoming.

 

Pattern

Individual areas of the pattern have a higher pile than the rest of this rug. The patterns of modern rugs are tending to become plainer and more abstract. Playing with different pile heights is a new approach, and it has replaced more elaborate, more insistent patterns. Because parts of the pattern have been brought out in two dimensions, though, the rug never looks dull. The accentuation is out of the ordinary and has a truly distinctive effect.

The pile is a solid black. The plain design is understated, yet it can also set a striking accent. The monochrome look of this rug fits in beautifully anywhere.

The surface of this Double has a mottled look. Shifts in tone and the light-and-dark shading of the pile yarn make the colours shimmer and help the rug hide dirt. These so-called abrash colour changes give the rug a livelier character. 

The clean, straight stripes of this Double order and structure the pattern.

 

Material

What makes this PETra special is the material it is made from. In an innovative process, yarns for rugs can be produced from PET bottles . The bottles or packaging are shredded and the flakes then melted down into a yarn. 
Rugs made from recycled PET bottles have a few qualities that cotton and wool rugs don't: they are very hard-wearing, unaffected by moisture and can even be used outdoors.
The feel of this rug is astonishingly soft and reminiscent of a wool rug. Even an expert would be hard pressed to tell it apart from rugs made of wool or cotton.
