Origin

The rugs from the city of Nain owe their unmistakable patterns and colour combinations above all to the master weaver Hadj Fatollah Habibian Naiini. He restricted himself to fewer than ten colours in his knotting and so laid the foundation for the colour palette of the Nain rugs that are still so popular today. The base colours are still mostly white or beige and blue, although Nain rugs in red, green and yellow are appearing more and more often. Floral patterns whose contours are accentuated with silk are typical. With their understated elegance and their reduction to just a few shades, Nain rugs also sit beautifully in modern interiors.

This rug, with the pattern typical of Nain rugs, was knotted in the Persian city of Kaschmar. Kaschmar lies in eastern Persia in the province of Chorassan and is the capital of the administrative district of the same name. It was originally called Turschis and was renamed Kaschmar in the days of Shah Reza. Kaschmar rugs therefore sometimes come onto the market under their old name of Turschis.

Material

The pile of this Nain Kaschmar was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. New wool is a renewable, natural raw material with a range of impressive qualities: thanks to the natural lanolin in the wool, the surface repels droplets of water and is naturally protected against dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and dampens sound.
