Rugs from Bijar

Bijar lies in the province of Kermanshah in north-western Iran. Rugs from Bijar are among the sturdiest and finest Oriental rugs. Most of Bijar's population are Kurds.

In the Kurdish Bijar rug, a particularly thick and extremely hard weft yarn is beaten in. The result is a board-hard, exceptionally hard-wearing and robust rug. Newer Bijar rugs in particular are adorned with the typical Herati pattern, also called the fish pattern (or Mahi pattern).
